Matanot La’evyonim
Give to Those in Need on Purim

One of Purim’s central themes is Jewish unity.

Haman sought to destroy us all — we were united in danger, and we celebrate united in joy. On Purim day we express that unity by caring for those less fortunate.

The mitzvah: Give money (“Matanot La’evyonim”) to at least two needy people during the daytime of Purim.

If you cannot personally find people in need, you may give through a trusted charity who will distribute the funds on Purim day.

Even small children should fulfill this mitzvah.

You can read about the four mitzvot of Purim here.

Giving in Leeds

You can fulfill the mitzvah securely online.

Ideally donations should be made on Purim morning (Tuesday 3rd March). However, if you are unsure whether you will be able to donate then, you may give in advance and we will distribute the funds at the correct time on Purim.

For other ways to donate, or if you know someone in need, please contact Rabbi Angyalfi on 07768 627 447.
