Message from the Rabbi

Dear Friend,

From the highs of Pesach, to the lows of another terrorist attack, this time, although geographically far, very close to home, on a Chabad House in California, run by a family who I know.

The Chabad-Lubavitch response has always been to fight darkness by spreading light. Chabad Houses and Shuls across the world are calling on people to stand up for their Judaism this Shabbat and attend a Shabbat service. We will bring even more people to shul, create even more light, to push away the darkness.

In other positive news, the summer term of Hebrew's Cool Club starts next week, register and details here.

And we have launched a new mini-series on parenting. The first event is with Tova Mordechai, who will tell her fascinating life story and share her insights on raising perfect children. Details here.

This week's Torah E-Thought is an op-ed that Rabbi Yisroel Goldstein, Chabad of Poway wrote for the New York Times.

Wishing you a Good Shabbos,

Rabbi Eli Pink

Parshah in a Nutshell

Parshat Acharei

Following the deaths of Nadav and Avihu, G‑d warns against unauthorized entry “into the holy.” Only one person, the kohen gadol (“high priest”), may, but once a year, on Yom Kippur, enter the innermost chamber in the Sanctuary to offer the sacred ketoret to G‑d.

Another feature of the Day of Atonement service is the casting of lots over two goats, to determine which should be offered to G‑d and which should be dispatched to carry off the sins of Israel to the wilderness.

The Parshah of Acharei also warns against bringing korbanot (animal or meal offerings) anywhere but in the Holy Temple, forbids the consumption of blood, and details the laws prohibiting incest and other deviant sexual relations.
